UPDATE:FOX 17 News has moved into a Code Red Weather Alert for the possibility of freezing rain.

A mix of freezing rain and sleet is expected to impact southern Kentucky, and possibly a few counties in Middle Tennessee.

The highest impact will be for counties northwest of Nashville. Up to 0.20" of ice is possible. A light glaze of ice will be possible for counties along and north of I-40 and west of I-65. This includes metro Nashville, but especially for areas with higher elevation.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for all Southern Kentucky, as well as Benton and Henry County in Middle Tennessee. This freezing rain event could result in ice accumulation between Wednesday morning and Thursday evening.

Rain and freezing rain will pass through the area on Wednesday morning. Precipitation should be light through the day. As Wednesday evening approaches, chances for freezing rain in southern Kentucky will increase.

Freezing rain occurs when supercooled raindrops hit a surface and freeze on contact, which could make for hazardous driving conditions Wednesday afternoon and especially Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
