NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The family of a Tennessee teen who died of a suspected overdose outside her high school just hours before the school held a graduation ceremony has launched a fundraiser to help with her funeral.
On Tuesday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) reported they were investigating the death of two juveniles at Fayette Ware Comprehensive High School, suspected to be caused by a drug overdose. A third juvenile was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The discovery took place just hours before the school was hosting a graduation ceremony in the gymnasium. All three victims were identified as females completing their junior year per the school district. The father of one of the victims identified his daughter as 16-year-old Alyssa Thorne according to WREG. The station adds the father says his daughter was currently living in a foster home and was suspected of ingesting a mixture of cocaine and fentanyl.
The dad also shared a statement with Tennessee River Valley News, telling the outlet "Its just unimaginable to me at this time. Anything will help. Keep your kids updated and teach them to not be so pressured to doing stuff you know nothing about."
The other two victims, identified as 17-year-olds, have not been identified.
On Wednesday, a Go Fund Me page was launched by Thorne's aunt Katherine Henry to assist the family with funeral expenses.
The Go Fund Me states:
"My niece Alyssa Thorne, 16 years old has passed away. This is devastating for my brother in law Mark Thorne and sister Elizabeth Thorne. We are not sure on all the details at this time. They need help with funeral cost. As we all know this is such a huge burden. Any little bit will help. There are no words to describe the grief of the hearts of the family.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3"
